J009362 (IJN) 1ST PATTERN NAVAL LANDING FORCE HELMET COVER. The standard 1st pattern, padded cover for the type 90 helmet, issued to Japanese SNLF troops. Its khaki-colored, water-resistant cloth exterior is comprised of six machine sewn pieces, meeting at the apex of the crown and gathered along their tunnel-looped base by an adjustable tie string. A 1st pattern, yellow wool anchor, on an olive drab wool vertical oval base, is hand sewn to the front of the cover and in my opinion is restored to the helmet. To the interior, its off-white liner mirrors the six-piece construction to the exterior. Interior is very nicely marked. Original tie-string is complete. Nice salty example that shows wear and use.
