J009258 TWO CASED VETERAN'S ASSOCIATION MEDALS.
Two cased medals, both roughly of the same form, but different sizes. The first, being the smaller of the two, is 7/8" in diameter, of silver washed alloy, and which has embossed to its obverse, against a pebbled background, a fouled anchor with a five-pointed star over it, after the fashion of veteran’s awards, beneath which arch upwards crossed sprays of cherry blossoms. Three columns of kanji characters are embossed to the reverse of the badge. It is suspended, through the ring to its top, from a horizontal bar, 3/16" tall and 1 1/16" wide, which is roughly in the form of a scroll, and against which are embossed indecipherable symbols and floral patterns. A horizontal pin-back device is crimped to the reverse of this bar, beneath which are embossed kanji characters. Light age soiling is evident throughout. It is nested into the corresponding depression to the navy blue flocked interior base of its original presentation case. The flocking is moderately nap worn but only lightly soiled. The 1 7/8" x 2 3/8" x 9/16", softwood case, which separates along its sides, has kanji characters stamped in gold to its cover, those to the top repeating the rightmost column to the reverse of the medal, while those beneath them are a repetition of the leftmost column, with an additional character to the base. The case has a noticeable crack to its cover, and another to its base, but it is otherwise only lightly surface scratched and age soiled. The second, larger medal is 1 3/16" in diameter, of the same material and with the same features to its obverse as the first medal, but that its star is enameled red. To its reverse is a column of eight kanji characters. It is also suspended, through the ring to its top, from a horizontal bar, 3/16" tall and 1 3/16" wide, again roughly in the form of a scroll, and against which are embossed indecipherable symbols and floral patterns. A horizontal pin-back device is crimped to the otherwise featureless reverse of this bar. Much lighter age soiling is evident to this medal. It is nested into the corresponding depression to the navy blue flocked interior base of its original presentation case. The flocking is moderately nap worn but only lightly soiled. The 2 3/4" x 3 9/16" x 1", softwood case, which separates along its sides, has two columns of kanji characters stamped in gold to its cover, that to the right repeating the top five of those seen to the reverse of the medal. The case is very lightly surface scratched and age soiled.New info added Oct 31st
"The item quoted above is misidentified. They are part of the WWII Aikoku Fujinkai membership badge set. The smaller of the 2 is the 3rd class Members badge and the other is the 3rd class Merit badge. I have taken the liberty of scaning the full set for you from my collection but did not include all the cases. Hope this helps"
Larry, thank you for the additional information. Peter
