J008757 (IJA) 2ND CLASS PRIVATE’S SHOULDER BOARD. A 4 5/8" x 2" shoulder board, whose obverse is in olive drab wool, and whose reverse is lined in similarly-colored canvas. A decorative, 9/16" diameter, gold-colored alloy button, upon which is embossed a cherry blossom, is to one end of the obverse. The obverse also features a single, brass, five-pointed star affixed to its center, signifying the rank of a 2nd Class Private. To its canvas reverse are two, short, buttonholed straps mating with a brass dish button sewn to its center. Moderate nap wear is evident to the wool obverse, where several moth nips may also be seen. Its brass star has dulled somewhat with age, and the gilt wash to its button is significantly worn.
