J008257 CASED GREATER JAPAN FIRE DEFENCE BADGE. A 1 7/16" tall and 1 1/8" wide, oval-shaped badge, of silver-colored alloy with enamel detailing, in its original wooden presentation case. The background of the obverse of the badge is in dark blue enamel, against which its details are created from its base silver, and to whose center is the image of a cherry blossom, in red enamel. Encircling the cherry blossom are what appear to be two distorted and stylized kanji characters. To either side of this surround are bird-like creatures, which are most likely peacocks, as their tails are long and descend to form a decorative border along the lower part of the badge. Beneath the cherry blossom and enclosed by the tails are two rows of kanji characters. Along either side of its reverse arches embossed kanji characters, those to the upper left translating to "Showa era 9th Year," or, 1934, with the characters beneath it appearing to be an "11th Month, 3rd Day" indication. To the middle of the characters to the right may be seen those translating to "Japan." A hinged, flexible wire is to the top of the silver-colored reverse, and its catch is to the base, beneath which may be seen other characters. All of its silver coloring is still bright, and all of its enamel is intact and unmarred. The badge is nested into a corresponding depression to the blue velvet lined interior base of its presentation case. The very light weight wooden case itself is 1 7/8" x 3" x 5/8", and has stamped to its cover, in gold, two columns of kanji characters. The piece to the forward edge to the lower part of the case has become unglued, but has not dislodged, and the case is otherwise only lightly age soiled and surface scratched.
