J007358 (IJA) CASED LIEUTENANT'S SERVICE UNIFORM SHOULDER BOARDS. A pair of service dress shoulder boards, within their original case. Each of the boards are 4 13/16" long, 1 3/8" wide, and approximately 5/8" thick. They are both comprised of interwoven golden-yellow cords, with a decorative, golden-colored alloy button to one end and two, nickel-silver plated alloy, five-pointed stars affixed along their centers. This configuration indicated the rank of Lieutenant. The buttons each have a cherry blossom against a pebbled background to them. The undersides of the boards are lined in olive drab wool and have, protruding from one end, 3 9/16" x 11/16" nickel-silver plated alloy tabs to them. The free ends of the tabs have circular cut-outs to them, and nickel-silver plated alloy hooks are beyond those, positioned to the underside of the buttoned ends of the boards. The boards are lightly age and usage soiled, and the finish to their stars is noticeably worn. They are wrapped in tissue paper and nested within separate compartments to the interior of their original storage case. The 3 1/2" x 5 5/8" x 1 5/16", cardboard case has a removable lid, with semi-circular cut-outs along either of its sides. Upon the lid is glued a 1 11/16" x 2 1/16" paper tag, within whose decorative border are ink stamped several kanji characters. A 1 1/8" x 13/16" paper tag is also glued to the forward end of the lid, with the same characters ink stamped to it. A piece of the right side of the lid is absent, but the case otherwise exhibits only light age and usage soiling.
