J007158 (IJA) MAJOR'S DRESS UNIFORM SHOULDER BOARDS. A pair of full dress shoulder boards, each of which are 5 9/16" long, 2 1/8" wide, and approximately 7/8" thick. They are both comprised of dual interwoven cords, one gold in color, the other silver, with a decorative, golden-colored convex alloy button to one end and a golden-colored alloy, five-pointed star affixed to their centers. This configuration indicated the rank of Major. Each of their undersides are lined in black wool and have, hinged at one end, 4 1/2" x 1" nickel-silver plated alloy tabs to them. The cut-outs to the free ends of these tabs mate with smaller tabs positioned to the underside of the buttoned ends of the boards. The silver cords to each board are noticeably tarnished, one more so than the other, the darker one also having several picks to its material. Its star is duller and has more wear to its highlights than the other as well. Otherwise, light age and usage soiling is evident to both.
