J007058 (IJA) CASED 2ND LIEUTENANT'S DRESS UNIFORM SHOULDER BOARDS. A pair of full dress shoulder boards, within their original case. Each of the boards are 5 3/8" long, 1 9/16" wide, and approximately 5/8" thick. They are both comprised of interwoven golden cords, with a decorative, golden-colored convex alloy button to one end and a nickel-silver plated alloy, five-pointed star affixed along their centers. This configuration indicated the rank of Second Lieutenant. Each of their undersides are lined in black wool and have, hinged at one end, 4 1/8" x 13/16" nickel-silver plated alloy tabs to them. The cut-outs to the free ends of these tabs mate with smaller tabs positioned to the underside of the buttoned ends of the boards. The boards are lightly age and usage soiled, with extremely light fraying, and the finish to their stars is noticeably worn. They are nested within separate compartments to the interior of their original storage case. Its base is lined in red velvet, and has a central divider, also lined in velvet. The interior lid is lined in padded, red velvet. All of the velvet is lightly nap worn and more moderately usage soiled. The exterior of the 6 3/16" x 3 3/4" x 1 5/8", nickel-silver plated alloy case has rounded corners, a pressure locking tab along its forward edge, and dual hinges along its rear. The finish to the case is dulled and surface scratched, and much of the cover has worn through to its base alloy.
