J006557 (IJA) SUPERIOR PRIVATE'S SHOULDER BOARDS. Two, 4 5/8" x 2" shoulder boards, whose obverses are in olive drab wool, and whose reverses are lined in similarly-colored canvas. A decorative, 9/16" diameter, gold-colored alloy button, upon which is embossed a cherry blossom, is to one end of each of their obverses. Each of their obverses also have three, brass, five-pointed stars affixed equidistantly upon them, signifying the rank of a Superior Private. To their canvas reverses are two, short, buttonholed straps mating with brass dish buttons sewn to their centers. Glue remnants may be seen at either end of each of these short straps, and light verdigris is to one of their buttons. Light to moderate nap wear is evident to their wool obverses, and one of the boards has a couple of noticeable moth holes near its button. Their brass and gilded elements have dulled with age.
