J006459 (IJA) TYPE 99 RIFLE CLEANING KIT. Very scarce Japanese WWII Squad Leader's cleaning kit for the Type 99 rifle, complete with pouch and in near mint, unissued condition. The wooden guide has never even been inserted into a rifle as there are no oil stains or dents in the body. The set consists of a wooden guide, four sections of cleaning rod measuring 9 1/4" each. All the rods have a very light patina and are bare metal. There is a "screw type" reamer made of brass and steel (see photos), and a brush made of brass with stiff bristle brush, lastly, a canvas pouch. The wooden guide is inserted into the receiver in place of the bolt. The guide prevents the rod from damaging the rifling in the bore. The section of rod is larger in diameter and fits the wooden guide. The pouch is marked near the top. Overall condition is excellent with storage age only. The leather strap is completely supple, and has two minor surface cracks (not structural). There is no deterioration on any of the metal, canvas or leather. Rare.
