J005657 (IJN) COMMANDER'S COLLAR TAB. An approximately 1 1/2" x 13/16" collar tab, upon whose black wool base are sewn two, 1/4" wide, horizontal bands of gold-colored tress, between which are pinned two alloy cherry blossoms, the combination signifying the rank of Commander. The reverse is faced with blackened leather or imitation leather, near one side of which exits the hinged base of a 1 1/8" long metal tab, with a cut out to its free end, which mates with a smaller metal tab protruding from the opposite side. Very light surface spotting may be seen to the metal, which appears to have originally been washed in silver, of which only traces remain. Only traces of the silver wash to the cherry blossoms remain as well, although the gold bands are still bright, and the exposed wool base is typically nap worn.
