J005557 (IJN) LIEUTENANT'S COLLAR TAB. An approximately 1 1/2" x 13/16" collar tab, upon whose black wool base is sewn a horizontal band of 1/4" wide, gold-colored tress, equidistantly pinned to which are three alloy cherry blossoms, the combination signifying the rank of Lieutenant. The tress is edged with white piping, further distinguishing the wearer as being a paymaster. To the reverse, the underlying stiffener is obscured by glue and paper remnants. The wool exhibits typical nap wear, and appears to have a couple of moth nips to it. The tress has dulled and soiled with age, and only one of the cherry blossoms retains traces of its original silver wash.
