J004959 (IJN) SHIP BOARD TELEPHONE. Very interesting piece of Japanese Naval history, I would think there can’t be too many of these being left in existence. Of the Japanese ships that did survive, the remaining examples where either scrapped or sent to the bottom during the atomic testing at the Bikini Atoll. Quite heavy, the main body is cast, two piece steel construction. The hinged lid opens up to show the various circuit connectors and diagram plate. Hinge function perfectly, and when in the closed position is held in place by three screws. There are four mounting holes/brackets on the reverse plate. Various kanji marked plates and script to the front including a nice IJN anchor marking. Single blue "in service" light to the upper right corner. Set comes complete with a handheld ear and mouth set and also a separate single announcement microphone. Wiring covering and rubber pieces are now somewhat dry and starting to flak. The original grey paint to the body of the set is retained at least 90%. Fantastic display items, ready to be mounted to a wall. Rare!
