J004858 (IJA) FIELD GRADE OFFICERS’ DRESS SASH. A belt sash for a field grade officer (general officers’ sashes were similar, but had gold rather than white bands), 2 3/16" wide and 42 1/2" long, approximately 58" in overall length with its balls and tassels included. The ribbed, thickly-woven silk sash has four red stripes separated by three white stripes running along its length. Near either of its ends are 1 3/8" x 2 1/2", golden-colored alloy, sliding length adjustment buckles, each with floral motifs embossed to their frames. Part of the sash is folded and fed through each of these, and the channel along the edge of one of would mate with the rod to the edge of the other, allowing the sash to worn as a belt with the tassels to either side of the connected buckles then falling to either side of the suspension mount for the sword. The balls and tassels themselves are golden-colored, with the interwoven wire thread around the stiffened balls being somewhat dulled with age, although the thicker tassels are still bright. The sash has a couple of spots of usage wear to it, and light soiling throughout.
