J004857 (IJA) CASED BASIC TRAINING GRADUATION COMMEMORATIVE SAKI CUP. A saki cup within its original presentation case. The light weight and light-colored wooden case is 4 3/16" square and 2" in overall height, with a removable lid held in place by the medium green rayon tie tapes extending from perforations near the base of each side. Glued to the lid is a 1 3/16" x 2 5/8" piece of paper, printed to which, in black and within a decorative border, are three vertically-arranged kanji characters. A portion of the upper right of the paper is absent, and wear may be seen to all of its edges. The lid has wooden rails to opposing edges of its underside, between which is glued a 1 1/2" x 2 3/16" piece of paper, which has printed to it, also in black and within a decorative border, four columns of kanji characters, with an additional character stamped in red to its lower left. This paper has only a couple of spots of edge wear.
Within the case is a 1 1/16" tall saki cup, finished in burgundy-colored lacquer, with a diameter of 3 9/16" along its gilt-edged top, tapering to a 1 3/8" diameter, extended base. Although its base and exterior are featureless, its interior has painted to it, in gold, a five-pointed star, above which are four kanji characters, alongside of which is diagonally draped an Imperial war flag with fringed edges, to the left of which is a column of seven or eight characters. The cup is in excellent condition, with only light age soiling to it, and all of its painted details are unmarred. Its case also exhibits only light age and usage wear, although its lid has bowed somewhat, and has noticeable surface scratches to it.
