J003657 (IJA/IJN) AIRCRAFT GAUGE. A pressure gauge, whose blackened alloy housing is 2 1/4" in diameter, with a collar just beyond its window which flares out and is perforated at each corner to accommodate attachment screws. Under the glass and upon its face is an indicator needle, above and around which arches a scale with gradations in increments of ten to 200, with a red line at the 170 mark. Immediately above where the needle is anchored are three kanji characters, the first two translating to "pressure," and the third to "gauge," with "Model P-1" beneath them, all in white. Immediately beneath the needle’s anchor point are two more kanji characters, also in white, the root character of the second of which appears to be "military," with a white, target-like symbol beneath those, and two red characters, which roughly translate to "restraint point," is beneath that, referring to the red line on the graded scale. A series of five white characters is to the base of the gauge, underneath which is stamped a five-digit serial number. To the upper part of its reverse is doubly screwed a rectangular alloy plate, with kanji characters and spaces for, among other things, year and month indications, none of which appear to have any entries to them. From the base of the reverse extends a threaded, hexagonal brass nut, unto which is screwed a steel nut with a tubular brass insert. Excluding this extension, the gauge is 1 1/4" deep. The blackening is lightly worn along the edges of the reverse, and more moderately so near its attached plate. A very small chip is to its obverse glass window along its upper right edge. Very light soiling is evident throughout.
