J003558 (IJA) SERGEANT MAJOR'S WINTER SERVICE TUNIC.
A fully lined tunic constructed from a heavy, olive drab colored wool, which features four exterior pockets, a five button, single-breasted front closure, and a lay-down collar with a dual hook and eye closure at the neck. The horizontal slash breast pockets have scalloped, button-down flaps, with buttons, and the unbuttoned, angled slash hip pockets have straight-edged flaps. The larger buttons to the front closure, and the smaller buttons to the breast pockets, are all of olive drab-painted metal. It appears as though the lowermost button has been re-stitched. Sewn to either side of the collar are 1 1/2" x 3/4", red wool tabs, each with a golden stripe running along their centers, against which are pinned three, silver washed alloy, five-pointed stars. These indicated the rank of Sergeant Major. Some of the silver wash has worn to some of the stars, the golden stripes have dulled with age, and the wool is lightly to moderate age soiled and nap worn. The tunic has false French cuffs. A vertical tail skirt vent, rising 7" from the base of the tunic beyond the left hip pocket, is sewn shut. The interior is fully lined in olive drab rayon, with its sleeves lined in striped white rayon. A horizontal slash pocket is to the interior left breast. Unmarked. Some color fading, picks to the material and light age and usage soiling is evident to the interior. The exterior is typically, lightly nap worn, and is equally lightly age soiled. Roughly a size 36.GRADE ****1/4 PRICE $268.00
