J003457 (IJN) OFFICER'S SUMMER BELT & BELT BUCKLE. A 28" x 1 3/8", dual-ply, tan-colored canvas belt, either end of which is wrapped and sewn around the vertical keepers of a two-piece brass buckle. The canvas is moderately soiled, with some oxidization stains, and has loose dark threads near where one of its ends is sewn, 9 1/2" away from a buckle keeper. From that keeper, which has a floral motif to it, horizontally extends a bar with the 1 1/4" diameter, convex and horizontally ribbed center of the two-piece buckle to its end. Rivetted over the brass center is a silver washed fouled anchor with a cherry blossom superimposed upon it. This piece fits into the cross-shaped opening of the second piece of the buckle, comprised of a 2" diameter outside diameter ring, with a rope-like pattern to it, extending from a keeper identical to that previously mentioned. The reverses of both parts are featureless. Light age and usage soiling is evident throughout, but the silver wash to the anchor has been almost completely retained, and the buckle’s brass elements are still relatively bright.
