J003358 (IJN) NAVY FLIGHT SCHOOL PERSONNEL'S SERVICE TUNIC.
An unlined, waist length, light olive drab cotton tunic, with a seven button, single-breasted front closure and a stand-up collar. Dual hooks are along one leading edge of the collar, and corresponding eyes are along its other edge. The eyes are moderately to heavily surface spotted. To either side of the collar are sewn 1 5/8" x 13/16" black collar tabs, upon each of which are machine woven, in golden yellow, a cherry blossom with a stylized wing extending back from it. The left collar tab is slightly longer than the right. The 7/8" diameter, convex brass buttons each have embossed to them a fouled anchor, against which is superimposed a cherry blossom, all against a horizontally ribbed background bordered by a rope-like surround. All are still bright, although the lowermost one is somewhat compressed. The eyes to each of their alloy reverses are fed through rings, visible beneath the fly along the inside of the closure. All of the metal rings are moderately to heavily surface spotted. Three collar studs may be seen along the inside of the collar. A loop, of the same material as the remainder of the tunic, is to the interior neck, beneath which is a white cotton yoke. Open-topped patch pockets are to the interior base of each front panel, that to the left having a vertical rectangle ink stamped to it, within which are six horizontal and five vertical divisions. To all but four of the five vertical divisions are ink stamped kanji characters, which include a "Showa era 20th Year" (1945) date, and, within parentheses and following the characters for "size," those for "4 large." A white silk tag is sewn alongside this interior pocket, with more characters printed and stamped to it. The tunic is typically, lightly age and usage soiled, and it has the faint outline of what appears to have been a glued-on anchor symbol to its upper left sleeve. Approximately a size 38.GRADE ****1/4 PRICE $506.00
