J002862 (IJN) LIEUTENANT’S FULL DRESS TUNIC. The dark blue wool coat has a double-breasted front closure leading to a stand-up collar fastened by dual hooks and eyes. The 45mm tall collar is faced in blue wool, against which is sewn a decorative, gold bullion border and anchor motif with a cherry blossom. Metal attachment devices for the should boards are present. Three vertical thread loops are sewn to the left breast, unto which a medal bar would have been positioned. Each of the eight, highly convex, 22mm diameter brass buttons to either side of the front closure have a anchor and five-lobed cherry blossom embossed to their obverses. Buttons all look to have original stitching. A vertical support metal hook for the sword or bayonet is to the left hip. Lieutenants rank tress to each sleeve. Jacket has a 50cm long tail skirt. The interior is fully lined in white silk. The lining is quilted from the waist up, and there are horizontal slash pockets to each breast. The interior collar liner studs are also present. Approximately a size 32" (81cm). One tiny moth hole to the front near where the fold over flap attached to the top right button. Jacket shows the expected age, but overall very nice condition. Attractive tunic.
