J002658 (IJN) AIRCRAFT GAUGE. What is most likely an amperage meter, whose appearance is typical of those found on aircraft, within a 2 1/2" diameter, black bakelite housing, with a 3 3/8" collar beyond its window to which are three, equidistant perforations to accommodate attachment screws. Its glass window is semi-circular, and has an adjusting screw, with embossed arrows along its top, to the bakelite at its base. Visible beneath its window, a series of nine small kanji characters arch along the top of the gauge. Beneath these is an arching scale which the needle would travel across, graded from "0" to "1.5" along its length. A large "A" is immediately beneath the scale, with an electrical symbol beneath it, and an anchor, "3," and an underlined "V," is beneath that. "FT-6" followed by a kanji character is to the lower left of the gauge, beneath which is "50053" flanked by kanji characters. To the lower right are two characters followed by "4000 V," beneath which is a "Showa era 19th Year" (1944) indication, followed by the characters for "Manufactured." Some of the interior workings of the gauge may be seen through the opening at the needle’s anchor point. To its reverse are two posts, with brass hex nuts and washers threaded unto them, one of which has the alloy base for a soldered "ribbon" proceeding from it. Excluding the posts to the reverse, the gauge is 1 7/16" deep. The black bakelite housing of the gauge itself is lightly surface scratched and age soiled, with its window being more lightly soiled. All of its components appear to be intact.
