J001757 OFF TO WAR/GOOD LUCK BANNER. Send-off parades were organized for soldiers on their way to the local railway station by community organizations, with the participants carrying banners ("nobori"), suspended from vertical poles, each with the name of a specific recruit to them. This is a smaller size example, approximately 9" x 25" white silk banner, to the top of which has been printed two crossed Japanese flags, one being a national flag and the other being a Japanese Navy flag. Banner is attached to a small bamboo rod that is used to hang it from the wall. Written in kanji, "presented to Tsuchida Keitato" by his/the soldier ""Kawakami". Some of the fringe is coming loose from the bottom, but an overall very nice example.
