G16755 "EARLY" M1915 STICK GRENADE. (Stielhandgranate M1915) The heavy sheet metal head, tapering, lathed, hollow wooden handle, and sheet metal screw cap measure roughly 14" tall inclusively. The unique sheet metal head has a removable top held in place by two brazed, bent over tabs, and raised prongs which fit into cut-out slots on the removable top. The body of the grenade head has a brazed on metal loop for attaching the grenade to the tunic, boot, etc. The paper label "Vor Gebrauch Sprengkapsel einsetzen! " (Before Use Detonator insert!) is still present. Looks like the head has had a coat of paint applied at sometime, probably to stop it from rusting, label maybe redone as well. The rare thing about this example, is that it comes with one of the very early pull strings that is taped to the handle with its original wax paper. (The later versions had the screw cap with the pull bead). Head is loose from the handle, threading is starting to wear. Of all the WW1 grenades I have had over the years, this is the only one I have yet encountered with this nice early handle type.
