G08554 REMEMBRANCE CARD. (Erinnerungskarten)
BACKGROUND: A common practice in Europe that continues to this day, is the issue of a remembrance card on the death of a family member. These would be distributed to friends and family as a memorial item
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A black and white card that is 4 1/4" high and 2 ½" wide. There is a small oval portrait on the top, and beneath it states that Johann Murnauer died on the 4th of October, for the fatherland, at the age of 38. On the reverse, the card is quite beautiful. The background is lightly shaded with green, and the details, as well as the border are silver. The image is of an angel above the dying soldier, complete with pickelhaube at his side. Beneath it states; A war service is a persons life on the earth. This card is in excellent condition with very minor yellowing mostly on the front, and minor edge wear.
