G07754 IMPERIAL BAVARIAN EM/NCO'S BELT BUCKLE. (Koppelschloß) A 2 1/2" x 1 7/8", slightly convex, stamped metal, two-piece construction Bavarian belt buckle. Set into its plain, obverse field, is a 1 11/16" diameter face plate, which features a crown to its domed center, encompassed by a dual rope-like border within which, against a ribbed background, is "In Treue Fest" (In Loyalty Firm - the motto of the Wittelsbach family of King Ludwig III), above a spray of oak leaves. To the reverse are the two solder spots which secure the face plate to the buckle, the raised buckle catch, and a metal prong bar with dual prongs, for the belt’s retaining tongue. An unmarked example. The buckle has an overall dark age patina to it, which obscures whatever finish it may originally have had. Moderate surface spotting is also evident.
