G03253 M1914 MAUSER PISTOL HOLSTER. (Pistolentaschen) A 6 3/4" tall, blackened leather holster, 5" wide across its top fold-over flap, from whose forward edge is sewn a vertical strap with a stud hole near its end. It mates with a brass stud, which exhibits light verdigris, to the body of the holster. To the right of the stud is sewn a 1 1 /4" x 3 1/4", open-topped pocket, for a magazine. To the left of this pocket and above the stud is impressed an encircled, standing bear. To the reverse are sewn two vertical leather belt loops, each 3/4" wide and approximately 2 3/8" tall. The interior of the fold-over flap features indecipherable handwriting, and what appears to be "40.W.K" is handwritten to the interior rear wall of its body. Sewn to one side of the latter handwriting, and exiting through a small, horizontal slot to the body’s front, is an approximately 3/8" wide, 5" long, tanned leather strap, whose free end is knotted. This acted as a quick release pull, as it would have rested just forward of the pistol’s trigger guard when it was seated in the holster. The smooth leather exterior of the holster exhibits the expected light surface scratching and even lighter cracking, and typical, light chafe wear may be seen to the tops of its belt loops, around its stud hole, and to the edges of its magazine pocket. The leather is otherwise supple and intact. The consigner reports that this is a First World War-vintage holster for a Mauser pistol.
