G02755 FIELD CUTLERY SET. (Essbesteck)

BACKGROUND: The field cutlery set was a standard individual personal equipment item that was issued to all personnel along with other provision for eating in the field that included the mess kit, canteen, breadbag etc etc. The field cutlery sets came in a variety of models including a folding fork and spoon combination. Following the old adage that, an army runs on its stomach, the field cutlery set must be considered one of the most important of all personal equipment items.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Machine tooled, tin plated steel construction field cutlery set. The set consists of knife, four tine fork and tablespoon, which all slide into the knife handle to hold them together. The knife, fork and tablespoon are all roughly, 7" tall. All the components are in overall good condition with minor surface spotting to the knife and handle. The only marking I could find are on the knife blade "FEIN STAHL". They are not dated, but with the tin plated steel construction they would probably fit into the 1900 to 1918 period.
