G026161 M1887 AMMO POUCH.
(Patronentaschen M1887)BACKGROUND: Originally developed in 1887 for the 11mm M71, and M/69 cartridges these pouches were modified early in WWI by the addition of three internal spring steel clips designed to hold three 8.1mm M88 cartridge stripper clips with each clip containing five cartridges.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Smooth, blackened leather ammo pouch is roughly 13.5 wide, 9.5cm tall and 3.5cm wide. Pouch has a top fold over flap with stitched hinge to obverse and vertical closure straps stitched to each side. Closure straps attach to extended steel studs on each side of pouch body. Reverse of pouch has two stitched on, vertical belt loops with horizontal retaining loops. Belt loops each have a cut-out eyelet which attaches to steel studs positioned on the bottom of the pouch. Reverse also has a leather reinforced, stitched brass "D" ring to top center. Reverse is well marked with impressed manufacturers name, location and date, "Sattler Verban, Hildesheim 1915". This example is fairly interesting as it has had the interior clips removed and the original cartridge dividers put back in (looks to be period done).
Pouch is in overall excellent condition, one of the best I have seen.GRADE ****1/4 PRICE $119.00
