G017057 WWI OFFICER'S DRESS/SERVICE PANTS. (Tuchhosen) Medium grey wool, privately tailored officers’ trousers, similar to the 1915 pattern worn by EM/NCOs, but with the addition of a back pocket. Its four button front fly has an additional button alongside its uppermost, and a larger version at the waist. There are two slash hip pockets along each side seam, and a horizontal slash pocket is to the rear right, with a buttonhole and button identical to those seen on the fly. A small, horizontal slash watch pocket is beneath the front right of the waistband, above and to the left of which is a horizontal loop, for the watch chain. Six buttons, identical to the larger one to the top of the fly, are along the waistband, in three groups of two, for suspenders. All of the buttons are the "dish" variety, in tan-colored bakelite, and all have "O. Rödelheimer" (the manufacturer) and "Bamburg" (their location) embossed along their circumferences. A short "V" slash is to the reverse center of the waistband, beneath which is, to the right, a horizontal adjustment strap and, to the left, another strap whose free end is wrapped and sewn around a dual-pronged, brass gripper buckle. The leading edge of the buckle has "Prima" embossed to it, and its prong bar is patterned. Both straps are constructed of the same material as the trousers themselves. Sewn to the inside of the buckled strap is a white, oilcloth tag, upon which is printed "Oskar Rödelheimer, Hoflieferant" (the word after the manufacturer’s name meaning: "purveyor (by special appointment) to His Majesty"), beneath which is handwritten the original owner’s name, the "Bamburg" location, and a handwritten March of 1917 date. A serial number is handwritten along the left edge of the tag. Along the outside seam of each leg, from the waistband to the cuff, is red wool piping. Sewn to both the inner and outer seam lines of both cuffs are tapering, 3 1/2" long, grey leather straps, each partially faced with grey wool, and each with stud holes to their free ends. Double-headed metal studs are fed through these stud holes, connecting the straps. The interior waistband (except for a strip of silk material along its edge), pocket bags and crotch are of white cotton. The watch pocket bag is of the same wool material as the trousers. A cotton loop is sewn to the interior base of the "V" slash. A horizontal strap, of the same material as the lining, extends from the left hip towards the fly, where the buttonhole to its end would mate with the additional button there. Both the interior and exterior of the trousers exhibit light age and usage wear, with small moth nips to the inside of the left leg and the outside of the right leg and cuff, and one of the suspender buttons has been re-stitched. Approximately a size 32" waist.
