G014460 M1918 BELGIAN GASMASK.
Captured German WW1 gas masks where utilized by Belgium after 1918. They where fitted with a French ARS base plate and filter. Heavily oiled leather mask, with the smooth side to the interior. The leather is still quite supple. All of the retaining straps and fabric covered springs are intact. The magnetic sheet metal eye sockets, with age yellowed clear lenses, are all intact. The lenses have a separate cut-out sheet metal "sight," consisting of a central circle with six retaining arms, emanating from the center to the edges. A field-grey painted, sheet metal filter attachment fitting is to the mask bottom. The tan/brown painted sheet metal breathing filter retains about 70% of its finish. Filter is very nicely marked "WR" with a star emblem. Quite scarce. (John, thank you for the info)
