G013656 REICHSWEHR CAVALRY LANCE PENNANT. (Wimpel) A swallow-tailed pennant, 27 1/2" long, comprised of one large piece of white cotton, and another of black, with the two sewn together horizontally to create a combined width of 13 1/2". An additional section of 1 5/8" wide white cotton is sewn along one side of its hoist edge, which also features four eyelets with reinforced stitching. These eyelets would have fitted over the corresponding extensions on the lance used between 1893 and its discontinuation in 1927. Light to moderate age and usage soiling is evident throughout, most noticeably to its white field, but there are no tears or repairs. Of Note: Although this is in the Prussian state colors of black and white, it would have been affixed to the lance, against the conventions of heraldry, with the white over the black, so that if the dye ran it would not affect its white field. This example most probably dates from the 1919 to 1927 period.
