G013256 MOUNTED "JÄGER" SABRE BELT. (Koppel und Koppelschloß) A 30 7/8" x 1 5/8", blackened leather belt, one end of which is wrapped and sewn around a brass buckle hook, while its other end has a 5 1/2" x 1 1/4" retaining tongue sewn to its underside. The tongue has four pairs of buckling holes along its length, which would mate with the dual prongs to the reverse of its buckle. An indistinguishable ink stamp may be seen along the interior of the belt. Three horizontal lines of stitching holes where the fixed strap was to be attached are also evident. These straps were no longer prescribed after 1911, and the belt’s blackening is consistent with those issued to members of Regiments 7-13 after 1913. The cast brass buckle is roughly in the form of a 1 13/16" x 2 1/4", open rectangle, with a catch for the aforementioned hook along its leading edge, and a swiveling bar with two prongs, for the belt’s retaining tongue, to its reverse. The brass is noticeably age soiled and darkened, and the leather is cracked and chafe worn, but is still remarkably supple.
