G012766 PREUßEN ISSUED MANNSCHAFTEN (EM’S) M1915 PELZMÜTZE (BUSBY) GREY METAL FITTINGS.

DESCRIPTION: Model 1915 Preußen (Prussian) issued Pelzmütze (literally: fur hat AKA busby) for Husaren (hussar) regiments. Tight black-dyed seal skin and hair stretched over a frame of bamboo on the upper half backed in an off-white corrugated stiffened burlap. Bottom half is dark green oilcloth. All grey-oxidized steel fittings with near-mint original leather liner. Original, chinstrap, Reich’s Kokarde, Kolpak (bag) and Fangschnur (cords). Feldzeichen (field badge) appears to be a home-made recover.

CONDITION: An excellent condition and very scarce M1915 Preußen (Prussian) issued Husaren Pelzmütze. The tight black-dyed seal skin and hair is well above average with the following spots missing hair: right front, three small 11mm X 2mm spots, right rear, three small 11mm X 2mm spots. Rear: a few small spots where the skin is sewn together, left rear, one 7mm X 5mm spot, top edge, one small 11mm X 2mm spots right front and one small 5mm X 5mm spot on the rear top. Very unusual to find an issued Husaren Pelzmütze with this much hair remaining. The Pelzmütze body has its two original slits cut into the stiffened burlap for the Preußen (Prussian) M15 Husaren Bandeau. Both V-shaped leather wedges are in place. Absolutely beautiful crisp stamped Line Husaren "wave" pattern Bandeau (ribbon) in grey-oxidized steel with the motto "MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND" (With God For King And Fatherland). No wear or age. Red Kolpak (bag) shows no moth damage or holes, but is a low quality with wear to the high spots of the weave. The Kolpak bag is stretched over a round wire and held in place by blackened metal hooks sewn onto the top the front, rear, and right side. The Fangschnur (cords) are perfect originals, correctly made from square cord and show only age toning. Original black leather chinstrap with correct M15 grey-oxidized steel fittings. Leather shows age and much surface cracking. The Preußen Feldzeichen (field badge) appears to be a home-made recover over an original wooden form. It is white wool with black wool center incorrectly glued on top, and backed with black wool. Shows age soiling with one tiny 1mm age fatigue spot on top above the black center. Otherwise, no mothing or damage. Incorrect aluminum rod. Reich’s Kokarde on the right side is original, some chipping to the white and red paint. The interior is near mint. Flawless soft vegetable-tanned tan lamb skin leather Pelzmütze pattern pointed finger liner with no damage or wear is stitched together at the rear. No fingers torn, original leather cord remains intact. Bamboo frame, off-white corrugated stiffened burlap upper and dark green oilcloth bottom look like new, with no damage or wear. There are no visible markings.
