G012466 M1915 PREUßEN (PRUSSIAN) KÜRRASSIER ISSUED MANNSCHAFTEN (EM’S) METALHELME.

DESCRIPTION: Unusually large Model 1915 Preußen (Prussian) Kürassier (Heavy Cavalry) Metalhelme with correct Kürassier pattern M15 removable spike top spike on bayonet lug. All grey-oxidized steel fittings with complete original leather liner, Kokarden and chinstrap. The helmet features a large rounded body with an M1889 front visor and extended, triple scale, lobster-tail rear visor. The entire circumference is trimmed in steel to outer edges; rear visor "lobster tail" has the standard eleven evenly spaced steel retaining rivets, front visor secured by two rivets. Stamped steel Prussian "foot troop" (which is common for these).

CONDITION: Superb example with all original fittings and only the slightest wear that would be difficult to upgrade.. Exterior of helmet shows only slight age with very minor rust spots, well above average. All steel grey-oxidized fittings appear to be original to this Metalhelme and match in age, wear, and colour. As is typical for these helmets, the edge trim appears to have been left raw steel, only the M91 chinstrap posts, eagle Wappen, and spike base & top are grey oxidized. Kürassier pattern "football" shaped base secured to the body with steel screw posts with correct brass squared nuts and aluminum washers, again, common for wartime Kürassier helmets. Helmet Wappen (front plate) is secured by two steel loops with leather wedges. Holes are slightly elongated, however, Wappen fits perfectly to this shell. Near perfect large Kürassier 63mm Prussian Kokarde on the left, identical condition Kürassier 63mm Reich’s Kokarde on the right, both retaining near 100% paint. Chinstrap is a perfect original with all signs of age and cracking expected from 90+ years of age. Excellent soft vegetable-tanned lamb skin leather 9-finger liner with no damage showing only slight wear. Typical wartime manufacture of thin leather cross-stitched together at the rear. Liner is secured to the metal shell by four large split brads. No fingers torn, original leather cord remains intact but undone. Superb large ink stamp to underside of liner band : "Herm. Weissenburger & Cie. Canstatt 1915". Original green painted underside of front visor and black painted inside of the shell and rear visor. Paint shows slight minor chipping and scratching.
