G012266 PREUßEN ISSUED MANNSCHAFTEN (EM’S) M1915 TSCHAKO.

DESCRIPTION: Model 1915 Preußen leather Tschako (shako) for Jäger (light infantry), Telegraphen (telegraph), etc. All grey-oxidized steel fittings with contemporary replaced leather liner and chinstrap. The Wappen measures only 95mm compared to the larger Line Foot-troops version which is 115mm. The smaller Wappen was worn only by several Ulanen Regts, most of the Jäger Battalions, and Preußen Telegraphen Battalions. Original Feldzeichen (field badge) and Reich’s Kokarde. The helmet features the flat top and skull-shaped rear typical of the German Tschako. Correct ridged front visor.

CONDITION: Good condition Tschako with some replaced parts. The leather black-lacquered shell is in very good condition with only minor surface scratching and scuffs. Front and rear visors are slightly loose, however, stitching is original and intact. Faint size ink stamp ‘54" and an embossed ‘3" on the top interior.  The helmet body has its two original holes for the M15 Pattern eagle Wappen (front plate) which are grommeted in steel. Both V-shaped leather wedges are missing. Very nice grey oxidized steel Jäger Wappen and M91 posts appear to be original to this Tschako. This Wappen is very clean and crisp, and in the desirable Jäger pattern with lower chest feathers that appear to meet in the center, like fingers, touching. Metal ventilation grommets on the sides are missing almost all the paint. Preußen Feldzeichen (field badge) is a home-made repair, probably an original wooden base and steel rod was recovered with white wool, and a black wool center and backing were glued on. Reich’s Kokarde on the right side missing. Heavy black leather 7-finger liner is a contemporary replacement, as is the heavy leather chinstrap.
