G011957 IMPERIAL OFFICER'S SHOULDER BOARDS. (Achselstücke) A pair of shoulder boards, each 1 3/4" wide and 4 1/4" long, each with a buttonhole to their rounded ends. The boards are comprised of dual rows of doubled silver cord, signifying the rank of "Leutnant" (Second Lieutenant), segmented with narrow black chevrons. The chevron color indicates that the wearer was Prussian. Pinned to the obverse center of each board are the, somewhat dulled, gilt colored alloy regimental numbers "17." The underside of each board is in white wool, which extends along their edges to form visible piping. Their reverses are featureless but for the bent-over prongs proceeding from the devices to their obverses. Their cardboard stiffeners are exposed at each rounded end where the wool has worn away, and the wool also has several moth nips near each of their bases, one with larger holes than the other. Light to moderate fraying is evident to each of their squared ends, where they were removed from a uniform. Their silver cords are lightly age tarnished and subtly distorted near their buttoned ends.
