G011066 WÜRTTEMBERG MANNSCHAFTEN (EM’S) ISSUED M1895 ERSATZ FILZHELM.

DESCRIPTION: Ersatz issued Model 1895 Württemberg Filzhelm (felt helmet). This pattern of Ersatz (replacement) Filzhelm (felt helmet) was manufactured c.1914 from very thick stiffened felt as a Model 1895 with brass fittings with front visor trim and rear M95 vented spine. As is typical for an Ersatz Filzhelm, the liner is sewn completely around the circumference and the stitching is visible on the exterior.

CONDITION: This scarce pattern of Ersatz Filzhelm is an good example with all original fittings showing age and wear. All brass fittings appear to be original to this Filzhelm and match in age, wear, and colour. Nice crisp Württemberg Wappen. This helmet is what I call a "Friday afternoon production" as the rear M95 vented spine is too short and does not come under the spike base, but it was slapped on anyways. There is one small split on the underside of the front visor trim, but it does not come around onto the front. Excellent Württemberg Kokarde on the left with only two tiny scratches on the red paint. Reich's Kokarde on the right shows just minor age with very minor wear to the red paint. Chinstrap is original showing just light age, however, it is an M1915 strap with grey metal fittings. The right side stitching where it loops around the buckle has let go, but it is intact and not broken. The felt body is in excellent condition and made from a very thick felt with no wear or damage. The helmet body has two small cut slits (common on Filzhelme) for the M95 Pattern Württemberg Wappen (front plate) which are slightly elongated. Both V-shaped leather wedges are missing. The vegetable-tanned black lamb skin leather 9-finger liner is stitched together at the rear. The liner is in excellent condition showing no wear or damage, just nice age toning. There are no makings visible.
