G009859 MECKLENBURG-SCHWERIN EM/NCO'S BELT BUCKLE. (Koppelschloß)
BACKGROUND: During the First World War, the state of Mecklenburg raised a total of five regiments and a few battalions to serve with the Imperial German army. Originally enlisted troops wore the Prussian style buckle, but then adopted the distinctive example with the Grand Ducal coat of arms for Mecklenburg-Schwerin in 1914.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Approximately 63mm x 49mm (for the standard 45mm belt), slightly convex, stamped brass, two-piece construction buckle features, to its obverse, a plain field upon which a separate coat of arms for Mecklenburg in nickel/silver. To the reverse is its braised buckle catch, and a prong bar with dual prongs, for the belt's retaining tongue. Very nice example. Rare.
