G009257 COMMEMORATIVE WWI GERMAN LEADER’S PLATE. (Platte) A ceramic plate, 11" in diameter, whose otherwise featureless reverse steps and tapers towards a 6 1/2" diameter base. The edges of its obverse feature an outside band of black, separated from an inside band of red by a white band. Where the obverse steps down is printed, against a green and yellow background of oak leaves and acorns, black and white portraits of, as is indicated to the base of the overall image, "Die Deutsche Heerführer" (The German Army-command). To the center is a portrait of Kaiser Wilhelm atop a spray of gold laurels, surmounted by a red and gold Hohenzollern crown, and with a 1914 Iron Cross, above a scroll reading "Gott Mit Uns" (God [is] With Us), beneath him. He is flanked by portraits of his crown princes. Above the Kaiser, and beneath the date "1914," is, as is indicated overhead, "Kronpr. Rupprecht v. Bayern" (Crown-prince ("Kronprinz") Rupprecht of Bavaria). Proceeding to the right, and in each case indicated by a scroll beneath the portrait, is, "Herz. v. Württemberg" (Duke ("Herzog") of Württemberg), "von Hausen," "von Falkenhayn," "von Reseler," "von Hindenburg," "von Kluck," "von Emmich," "von Bülow," and, "von Heeringen." The plate exhibits the expected light age soiling, but has no significant wear, and there does not appear to be any chips or cracks.
