G007562 GERMAN HONOR MEDAL OF THE WORLD WAR. (Deutsche Ehrendenkmünze des Weltkrieges mit dem Kampfabzeichen der Ehre Légion) The 32mm diameter, bronze washed, stamped alloy medal has, to its obverse, the image of an angel about to place a wreath of laurels upon the head of a German soldier. The soldier’s helmet is in his right hand, while his left holds a rifle, a first class Iron Cross may be seen pinned to his breast, and a bayonet, with tassel, is slung from his belt. To the reverse of the medal is the image of a 1914 Iron Cross, with oak leaves and acorns along its base, and "Fürs Vaterland" (For-the Fatherland) arching above it. A small ring passes through the perforation to the extended top of the medal, through which passes the larger loop for its original, 31mm wide ribbed moire ribbon. To the obverse of the ribbon is pinned a bronze-colored alloy device in the form of a circular wreath of oak leaves with a sword crossing diagonally through it, being the Front Badge of the Honor Legion.
