BACKGROUND: Map/dispatch cases were issued on a limited basis to specifically designated personnel such as unit commanders, messengers, and observers.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Red/brown leather construction case with steel fittings. The case is roughly, 11" tall, and 9" wide, and 1.5" thick. Front of the pouch has compartments for a ruler and six pencils. Interior is split into two main compartments. Fold over front flap with single leather strap and roller buckle. Reverse of the pouch has its two original leather attachment straps with roller buckles. Some of the stitching near the top of the pouch has pulled loose, but it is still a very solid and usable example. Leather is still fairly supple. Maker marked to "F.W. RAPPOLD BLAUFELDEN" and dated for 1916. Very decent untouched example.
