G007165 FOUR PLACE MEDAL BAR. (Grosse Ordensschnalle)
BACKGROUND: The wear of Awards, Medal Bars and/or Ribbon Bars were addressed in regulations as early as the mid-1800s and followed established directives that were based on the grade or class of the award. When an award was instituted the introductory orders would normally prescribe the proper form of wear with most of the awards being permitted to be grouped together on a medal bar for wear on the walking-out dress and formal uniforms. Strict regulations listed the required order in which awards were authorized to be worn on the medal bar.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This example consists of a Combatant's Cross of Honor 1914/18, an Austrian WWI Commemorative Service Medal with crossed swords cypher, and a 1914/18 Hungarian Combatant's Commemorative Service medal and 1915-18 medal. The medals are all in overall good condition and retain the majority of their appropriate finishes. The medals are all accompanied with their correct, parade mounted, horizontally ribbed ribbons. The medals and ribbons are mounted on a horizontal sheet metal bar with a protective wool backing hand-stitched to the reverse. The reverse of the bar has its horizontal pin and corresponding catch intact.
