G006066 SAXON ISSUED MANNSCHAFTEN (EM’S) M1915 TELEGRAPH BATTALION TSCHAKO.

DESCRIPTION: Model 1915 Sachsen (Saxon) leather Tschako (shako) for Kgl. Sächs. Telegraphen-Battalion Nr.7. (Saxon telegraph battalion nr. 7). All grey-oxidized steel fittings with worn orginal leather liner. The Wappen measures only 82mm compared to the larger Infantry Line Wappen at 104mm. Original Feldzeichen (field badge), chinstrap, and Reich’s Kokarde. The helmet features the flat top and skull-shaped rear typical of the German Tschako. Correct ridged front visor. Large size, possibly a 59?

CONDITION: Rare example of a Sachsen (Saxon) M15 Tschako (shako) for Saxon telegraph battalion nr. 7 in good condition. All original fittings with excellent exterior, worn interior. The leather black-lacquered shell and front edged leather visor show nice age crazing to the lacquer. Rear leather visor shows more age with smudges and indentions etc to the lacquer, probably from an Überzug (field cover). Stitching on both visors is tight. The helmet body has its two original holes for the M15 Sachsen (Saxon) Wappen (front plate) which are grommeted in steel. Both V-shaped leather wedges are in place. Very nice crisp, clean, matt grey oxidized steel two-piece Sachsen 82mm Telegraphen-Bataillon Wappen. Similar condition M91 posts. Metal ventilation grommets on the sides retain almost 100% of the black paint, the left one has suffered a little dent. Very nice (and scarce) original Sachsen (Saxon) Feldzeichen (field badge) white wool covering a wooden base with green wool center and backing with no mothing or damage. Correct steel rod. Reich’s Kokarde on the right side also original, only slight age to the red. Chinstrap is a nice thin original with all signs of age and cracking to the surface expected from 90+ years of age. Somewhat fragile this wartime vegetable-tanned lamb skin leather 9-finger liner shows wear and age. Typical wartime manufacture of thin leather stitched together at the rear. Both sides under the M91 posts are worn through and dry, revealing a few holes. At the rear are three spots from what appears to be heat damage (some idiot put it on a lamp perhaps?) resulting in one 9mm and one 3mm hole No fingers torn, original leather cord remains in place. Faint ink manufacturer’s stamp on the top but unreadable.
