G004559 IMPERIAL GERMAN COLONIAL TROOPS SERVICE TUNIC & PANTS. Very early German tropical uniform dating from 1888 to 1893. Light-weight, tan colored, cotton construction. Six button front closure. Of the six large (26mm) plain brass buttons. The top one look to have original stitching, while botton five look to be re-stitched. Plain, white sew on should straps with unit marked "3" buttons (restiched). There looks to have been rank tress on the collar at one time which has been removed. Each sleeve cuff is piped in white and has three large brass buttons. Tunic is unlined as are most tropical examples. Unmarked, however you can see stitch lines from where the original label once was. Comes with an excellent pair of early German tropcial trousers. Light-weight, tan colored, cotton construction. Five button front fly. Adjustable rear belt with gripper buckle. Two front slash pockets. Approximately size 34" waist. All buttons look to have original stitching. Approximately a size 34" chest. Very nice original name tag "Marinefeldartillerist Hengeler Marinefeldbatterie" is sewn into the waist liner. Hengeler server with the Naval Field Battery in Tsingtau China, one of only approximately 90 members. Scarce, early tropical outfit.
