BACKGROUND: The new pattern canteen for the German Army was first introduced in June of 1915. Production now turned to tin plated steel in order to save scarce aluminum that the M1907 canteen used. In 1916 there was yet another modification, in order to save on tin, the canteen would only be coated with it on the inside while the exterior was to be enamel coated.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: A .8 liter, tin-plated steel canteen body, as introduced in 1915. Enamel coated in green and blue. Faint maker mark and dated for 1918.
