G004256 TRAIN BATTALION EM/NCO’S M1910 LIGHT WEIGHT SUMMER VISOR. (Schirmmütze) Excellent example of a Train Battalion visor with the 1915/16 new pattern "potash-blue" centerband and piping. Visor cap with a one-piece, field grey wool circular crown, piped in blue, a field grey linen body with seams to each of its cardinal points, a one-piece, blue wool center band whose vertical seam is to the reverse, and a blackened, ersatz visor with a reddish oilcloth backing. A vertical stiffening spring is behind the forward seam line of the body. Stamped alloy Reichskokarde is attached to the front centerband, which is in the wrong position. There should be a state kokarde in the centerband with the Reichskokarde to the top crown. You can clearly see the fading and hole on the top crown area where the Reichskokarde was removed from. Between the center band and the visor is a thick, blackened leather chin strap, fixed over each ear by blackened alloy, convex buttons. Leather slider is still present but the chinstrap buckle is missing. To the interior, its 1 5/8" wide reddish brown oilcloth sweatband exhibits cracking, chafe wear and a few tears which is typical for its age. The crown is lined in course buckram material, looks complete and untouched. Moderate nap wear and light soiling is evident to the exterior crown, body and center band. A couple of small moth nips but nothing bad. Overall very attractive hat.
