G003158 DEACTIVATED MG08/15 MACHINE GUN. (Maschinengewehr) A blued metal machine gun, approximately 55" in overall length, with a hardwood butt-stock and pistol grip. The butt-stock, whose end is shaped to fit the user’s shoulder, has a diagonal groove cut through it, mid-way along its base, for a carrying strap. To the right side of the body is the bolt handle, which still works. The spring and spring cover housing are missing from the left side of the main body. All working interal components have been removed. The trigger is enclosed by a guard which is screwed unto the forward face of the wooden pistol grip. A cross-hatched toggle is positioned along the upper left side of the guard, above which, to the side of the body, is stamped an arching arrow with "S" (for "Sicherung," or, Safe) to one end and "F" (for "Feuer," or, Fire) to the other. To the top of the receiver cover is missing it sight/range adjustment. Forward of the sight is prominently stamped "6041" "M.G. 08/15.," "M.A.N.," "Nürnberg," "1917". To the underside of this section is where the removable bipod is fixed. To the underside of the jacket, is a rectangular "ring" for the other end of a carrying strap. The barrel has been filled. The machine gun’s wooden components have only light surface abrasions to them. The bluing to the body exhibits typical wear to its edges and highlights, but has been mostly retained. Few missing parts, but still a nice untouched example.
