G003059 M1908 BINOCULAR CASE. (Fernglas 08 Behälter) 

BACKGROUND: Originally introduced in 1909, the Fernglas 08 binoculars where meant to replace 1903 pattern. Both patterns where used extensively until the end of the war in 1918. All Infantry command where equipped with a pair of binoculars.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Case for the Fernglas 08 binoculars. Standard kidney shaped Presstoff carrying case with black fabric covering. Top and bottom with black painted leather covers. Reverse of case with wide riveted on leather hinge which is attached to the upper and lower sections by rivets. Both lid fasting side straps are complete as are the steel studs they attach to. The two vertical belt loops to its reverse are each rivetted to their upper and lower ends. Straps are very nicely marked to "Emil Busch A.G. Rathenow". There is also a metal buckle to the reverse which could be attached to the Y-straps for support. Original owners initials are stamped onto the case. Interior lids only has a partial remaining paper label. Nice case.
