G001957 IMPERIAL AUSTRIAN NAVY ENGINEER'S SHOULDER STRAPS. (Achselstücken) A pair of stiffened shoulder straps, in either black or very dark blue wool, each 1 1/2" wide and 4 3/8" long, and coming to a point near where a decorative button is sewn. The convex, gilt-colored metal buttons are both 5/8" in diameter, and are edged with a rope-like surround which encircles a crowned, fouled anchor. Beneath these buttons are affixed gilt-colored alloy Hohenzollern crowns, and anchors are beneath each of those, against whose centers are cogged wheels. The cogged wheel and anchor combination most likely indicates that the wearer was an engineer. A central seam line is to either of their otherwise featureless reverses. Light age soiling, and several very small moth nips, are evident to the wool, and the gilt to their alloy devices have dulled and darkened to their recesses.
