G001862 PRUSSIAN CAVALRY NCO’S PENNANT. (Wimpel) A swallow-tailed, white cotton pennant, 67cm long and 34cm tall, to the center of either side of which is printed the Prussian state coat of arms, distinguishing the pennant as being for an NCO (other ranks used the state colors). It takes the form of a splayed, crowned eagle, in black with gold highlights, clutching a scepter in one talon, an orb in the other, and with "FR" to its breast. Its hoist edge, which is folded over and sewn unto itself, has four, equidistantly-spaced, reinforced eyelets to it. These eyelets would have fitted over the corresponding extensions on the new type steel lance, first introduced in 1893. Ink stamped, in black, along the reverse of the hoist edge, within rectangles, is what appears to be "KA VII" and "1915," and, not within a rectangle, "R 5" (likely indicating the 5th Regiment) over "I." The pennant is lightly age soiled. Nice example. Scarce.
