G001358 MINIATURE PRUSSIAN M89 OFFICER'S SWORD.
A miniature M89 Officer's Sword probably made for a child. It has a single fuller, acid etched blade, with a half basket hilt and a fish-skin grip. The blade is about 19 3/4" long and has an acid etched floral pattern on each side of the blade. There is a makers mark to one side just in front of the guard that is a medieval style helmet with visor that was used by Weyersberg und Kirschbaum of Solingen-Wald. The half basket guard has a Prussian Eagle with the cypher of King Wilhelm II on its breast. The black fish-skin grip is brass wire wrapped and has an angled brass pommel. The nickel-silver plated steel scabbard is about 20 1/2" long, has an integral drag to the bottom edge and two sweated on horizontal scabbard bands with two hanger rings and two small leather straps with single prong brass buckles. Both of the small, dome headed throat retaining screws are intact. The sword is in good condition with an overall age patina to the hilt and the blade while the scabbard retains over 95% of its plating with only a couple of tiny spots missing to one side of the scabbard and to the edge of the drag.
